SportStar Overview
The SportStar is a great training or touring aircraft (ask any of the numerous flying instructors using the SportStar!) - cruise at a useful 105-115kts TAS; get in and out of short rough strips on the wide, big-wheeled gear and really go places!
If you are looking for a high quality well-built aircraft - look no further! What other aircraft in its class:
- is built in an EASA Part 21 licensed, ISO 9001 accredited aircraft factory?
- has every joint glued/bonded as well as riveted?
- has every external rivet filled with mastic before painting?
- is fully corrosion proofed throughout with etch primer?
- has full length 'piano' hinges for all control surfaces?
- is backed by a 2-year/200 hour no-quibble factory warranty?
The SportStar boasts all this, plus there's plenty of space in the side-by-side cockpit, equipped with full dual controls, including adjustable rudder pedals and toe-brakes. Split flaps (like the RAAF Roulettes aerobatic team aircraft, the Pilatus PC-9) give short take-offs and amazingly safe and steep landing approaches that are the envy of lesser aircraft. It's like riding on a magic carpet.

SportStar - the benefits to you
- Take-off and landing performance to spare. Simple, light, reliable and effective low-maintenance split flaps give you excellent short field performance without the complexity of other designs. At appropriate settings, they will enable you to get into (and out of!) virtually any small strip - "If they're good enough for the Spitfire, they're good enough for me!" - SportStar customer.
- Good cruise speed and range. The SportStar will cruise at any speed from 65 to 115 knots (True Air Speed) depending on how much fuel you want to use. At 100kts TAS you'll use about 17 ltres per hour - on the 120 litre fuel capacity, this gives you a range of 7 hours or 700 nautical miles (1,300 kilometres).
- Reliability. The engine is the now legendary Rotax 912ULS 100hp unit - legendary for its reliability and smooth operation. Now with a 1,500 hour time-before-overhaul (tbo), there are many still flying after 4,000 hours on the same crank.
- Strength and accident protection. All joints are bonded/glued as well as riveted. This gives you better protection in an accident (no 'unzipping'), a smoother, quieter flight - because 'drumming/oil-canning' and flexing is absent - and therefore a longer-life airframe. There is a built-in roll-over hoop to protect you in the event of the unthinkable happening.
- Cockpit floor is flat & clear - meaning there's no danger of bags, books or maps getting caught under the control sticks. It also means there's plenty of room to stretch out on longer trips.
- Sturdy landing gear with wide-tread wheels and tyres - to deal with rough strips. Main gear is fixed, individual fibreglass legs. Nose gear is steerable, rubber suspended steel. Wheel spats and mudguards are optional.
- Spacious cabin with excellent ventilation to keep you cool. The wide, tilt-forward, canopy is tinted to protect you from over 98% of UV radiation. There are sun visors (plus an optional sliding sun screen) and NACA scoop-fed eye-ball vents, which blend hot and cold air to keep you at your preferred temperature.
- Seating is side-by-side with full dual controls. Both occupants have room to comfortably reach all the controls and instruments/radios without squeezing into each other - there is just over 46 inches of elbow and shoulder room, giving you plenty of space.
- Your baggage is accessible in flight. Up to 25 kgs of luggage is accessible in-flight behind the seats in the huge baggage compartment, secured with a stretch-net to ensure nothing gets loose in turbulence or a heavy landing.
- Strength and longevity through its all-metal anodised and etch-primer corrosion-proofed aluminium airframe - this plane will look and feel the same after 2,000 hours flying as it did when it was new!
- Built by an experienced aircraft manufacturer to the highest aviation standards. The SportStar is made alongside GA certified aircraft by the Czech Republic's biggest aircraft manufacturer in an EASA Part 21 licensed factory. Come and look the plane over and you'll soon notice! The factory is also ISO 9001 accredited for quality standards.
- 2-year/200 hour factory warranty on the whole airframe, plus manufacturers' warranties on the engine and avionics.

Last but not least, the SportStar is amazing fun to fly! To quote David Bremner, Editor of a well-known flying magazine - "The SportStar is huge fun to fly. I came back with a silly grin on my face that wouldn't go away, and all the owners I've spoken to can't praise it highly enough"
The SportStar's European sibling, the Eurostar was voted 'Aircraft of the Year' as far back as 2003 by the readers of UK Flyer Magazine - to quote: "...the Eurostar is an extremely high quality, all-metal low-wing, tricycle undercarriage, two seat touring aircraft which is also highly suitable for training purposes."
Over 750 SportStars/Eurostars are currently flying - in the USA, Italy, Germany, UK, France and 35 other countries, including Australia.
