Tax rebate extended - to 50% & 6 months!
Small businesses - particularly those with turnover less than A$2 million a year - have increased tax rebate and extended time opportunities following the May 2009 Australian Federal budget. This opportunity is intended to get small businesses spending.

Eligible businesses can now receive an additional 50% tax reduction on purchases of new equipment costing more than $1,000 (excluding GST). 'Equipment' includes aircraft! The purchase of the aircraft must be primarily for business use, such as flying schools and clubs, farming and rural work, etc.

As a result, your business can make big savings - for example, on an aircraft costing $100,000, you can receive a tax reduction of $50,000 (in addition to the $15,000 depreciation allowance you can already claim). This makes a mammoth $65,000 tax reduction!

However, your order has to be contracted before 31 December 2009 and delivered before 31 December 2010.

Businesses with turnover more than A$2 million remain eligible for the current 30% tax rebate. For these businesses, the 30 June 2009 deadline for orders and 30 June 2010 delivery deadline remain.

This is just a summary of the headline information - please discuss with your accountant what it means for you - and call me to reserve SportStar NOW!

SportStars in Western Australia
In May 2006 SportStar Plus VH-CDL became the first ever Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) to be certified anywhere in Australia - co-incidentally, a year earlier the SportStar was also the first LSA to be certified in the USA. CDL at the time was the demonstrator SportStar for our WA representatives, Cloud Dancer Sport Aircraft at Jandakot Airport.

Since then, the number of SportStars in WA has grown steadily and we now have no less than 11 SportStars operating within strike distance of Perth, almost half of them in school use. There is a good cross section of VH- and RA-Aus aircraft with both day and night VFR versions flying. VH-CDL has now become 24-5282 and is owned privately by Will Owen. Will recently flew CDL/5282 on an extended trip to the east, including a visit to the RA-Aus Easter Natfly show at Narromine, NSW. The aircraft is now safely back home.

Cloud Dancer now operates a new SportStar SL demonstrator from Jandakot, superbly equipped with autopilot, constant speed prop, Dynon D180 Flight Deck and night VFR equipment. This aircraft - VH-EVK - has been based at Tyabb near Melbourne for a few weeks, taking in the Avalon Airshow in March, where it drew lots of favourable attention for its silver and blue paint. It also braved the elements to Natfly over Easter where it was the subject of a flight review/test for Australian Flying Magazine - see the July/August issue.

I also took EVK to Bendigo Flying Club for a day's flying by the members, where many of the comments were about how quiet the aircraft is in flight - both inside and out. This is probably helped by the glued/bonded joints, which help to stop 'oil-canning' and sound resonation, which plagues many other metal LSA's and creates pilot fatigue.

By the time you read this, EVK should be back home at Jandakot.

Please call Basil Lenzo on 0412 925 300 or Alan McGovern on 0400 883 097 at Cloud Dancer if you want a demonstration test flight - and join the growing numbers of SportStar owners in WA.
