Type the new title here
May 2008 - Evektor has announced the arrival of the new SportStar SL. Apart from the obvious changes to the canopy and fuselage, there are a number of other changes under the skin, aimed at improving on an already superb (and popular) aircraft::

1. Canopy & cabin
- Revised canopy shape, which is more aerodynamically efficient.
- Redesigned canopy frame – which exceeds all the strength and turnover conditions and crew protection required under EASA regulations.
- Revised canopy latching mechanism, now an 'automotive' 3-point system with panel 'unlocked' warning light
- Increased cabin shoulder room – now almost 120 cms.
- Improved ventilation and heating via eyeball vents in the canopy sides.
- Redesigned windshield demist/defrosting.
- Shoulder harness now attached at a lower side position behind the seats to improve baggage access.
- Grab handles in the instrument panel shield to facilitate entry/exit.
- Upholstered armrests in canopy sides.

2. Aerodynamics
- New, sleeker canopy improves cruise speeds
- New shape fin/rudder tip for more lateral and directional control/stability.
- New design of engine cowling with NACA scoops for optimised engine breathing & cooling.
- New optional electric roll/aileron trim as well as elevator trim.
- Standard propeller now has stainless steel leading edges for better protection on rough/stony strips.

3. Safety & control
- Wider track main gear for improved stability on the ground and on landing/take-off.
- Nose wheel tyre now the same size as main gear – reducing the sensitivity of the nose wheel steering.
- Central brake fluid reservoir makes for easier checking and topping up.
- Nose wheel damping stiffened for better landing control.
- Rudder pedal ergonomics improved.
- Revised toe-brake/pedal geometry.
- External brake disk calipers allow pad replacement without wheel removal.

The SportStar SL comes with a completely new range of paint patterns and colour combinations.

Deliveries of the first SportStar SL models are expected in Australia from July/August onwards.

SportStar sales in Australia approaching 50 units
The SportStar has proved a popular alternative to some of the more traditional LSA brands on the Australian market. There now more than 25 SportStars either already on line or ordered for flying clubs and schools - including the Royal Victorian Aero Club in Moorabbin/Melbourne, the Australian Flying College at Northam (near Perth) and Adelaide Biplanes at Aldinga Airfield.

There is also a SportStar at Tocumwal used for glider towing as well as flying training.

In the next few months, we will be celebrating the delivery of our 50th SportStar - not bad for a premium quality aircraft in less than 4 years of sales!
SportStar holds steady third place in USA sales
The SportStar is maintaining its steady 3rd position in the monthly USA LSA Sales chart (see www.bydanjohnson.com for more details). Other manufacturers include several different models in their sales figures, so it is difficult to compare individual model sales, but after the Legend Cub (an excellent Piper Super Cub replica) Evektor is easily the best selling single-model manufacturer. Our American colleagues have already taken extensive orders for the new SportStar SL and are projecting a continued successful record for the SportStar.
